Furniture for Dragons

When planning your dragon's furnishings, I recommend keeping things simple. Remember that these lizards like to have open area to move quickly over. A lot of clutter taking up the available floorspace is probably not appreciated by your dragon. It will also make it hard to keep things clean because dragons are not picky about where they poop.

Something like a single large rock and/or moderately sized piece of driftwood located at one end of the enclosure beneath the basking light will keep the majority of floorspace open, yet still provide your dragon a much appreciated decoration. Your dragon will use this vantage point to survey its domain.

The only other furnishings I recommend are some dishes for food and water. I like the crockery-style dishes sold in pet shops. They are made out of thick, heavy plastic, and they have deep, straight sides and flat bottoms. The ones I like best are about six inches across and three inches deep. The dragons cannot accidently turn them over and most food items will stay inside where they belong. Of course, with a dragon's dining ettiquette, some food will be spilled out no matter what dish it is offered in.

Outdoors, I place something in or over the cage to provide a shade shelter, like a piece of burlap over 1/4 of the top of the cage.
